With air time estimated between $2.5 and $3 million, both job boards are looking to gain traffic and exposure during high unemployment times.

In our poll last year, CareerBuilder won the superbowl ad contest big time with 71% of the vote.  After announcing the acquisition of Yahoo! HotJobs last week, the Monster.com beavers hope to take the top spot over CareerBuilder’s whitey tighties.

The social media craze is alive on many fronts and, for Recruiters, it is no different.  There are companies offering a wide variety of services to advance their presence online for recruiting, skill development for sourcing talent, as well as the first social recruiting conference being held in June, to name a few.

The weekly recruiting blog poll results are in from last week.

The question: How would you rate your organization’s adoption of social media in branding overall, and for recruiting?

The results:

  • It’s a struggle (64%)
  • Slowly but surely (28%)
  • Ahead of the curve (8%)

From several conversations I’ve had, this continues to be a slow moving process for a variety of reasons.  As you can see from the results, 92% of respondents state between “it’s a struggle” and “slowly but surely”.  The 8% clearly continue to have an advantage.

The question: What is the primary focus of your recruiting metrics?

The results:

  • Measuring productivity (54%)
  • What metrics (26%)
  • Measuring value (10%)
  • A combination (value and productivity 10%)

In addition to the obvious quality of hire, there were 3 top picks for recruiting metrics presented at the Spring Kennedy Information Recruiting Conference that I previously highlighted.

The question: What is your satisfaction level with your current A.T.S.?

The results:

  • We’re shopping? (59%)
  • Meet’s most needs (41%)
  • Exceeds our needs (0%)

Looks like a great time to be in A.T.S. sales! The biggest challenges overall I’ve heard with applicant tracking systems is around building candidate communities, CRM capabilities, and SEO components (all integrated into one solution).

Maybe with Taleo’s recent news to acquire Vurv, and other A.T.S. rumors on the street someone will step up and take a leadership role in the space.  Then again it is technology, and doesn’t “fix” a lot of the other issues we’re facing.

The question: What is the biggest challenge in using social media to source candidates?

The results:

  • Internal push back (45%)
  • Lack of time (29%)
  • Fear with loss of control (17%)
  • Don’t know how to use tools (9%)

I wasn’t surprised that internal push back topped the list. Kudos to those that have been able to influence stakeholders internally and sell the risk/reward balance. Here is a post on the corporate adoption of social media for recruiting and retention.
