Ask a job seeker where he or she would start their online job search. Jobster certainly wouldn’t be at the top of their list, since it primarily branded itself within the HR and Recruiting community. I quickly started 3 job searches on Google using a keyword and location, and a Jobster result did appear on the first page of results in 2 of the 3 searches. In all 3 results I clicked on the first job in the site. All 3 were aggregated from other sites, and 2 of the 3 came up with “Sorry, this job is no longer available”.

For a company that was visible and in the headlines, the last press release on their site is almost a year old.

Possibly the most valuable asset to the organization is the domain Recruiting.com, a one time recruiting blog hit. Until last night, when the Recruiting.com site showed the new face of jobster.

While the site gets an “A” for the new color scheme, the service has been failing miserably for 2 years. From a job seeker’s point of view, jobster certainly wouldn’t be considered a career portal, or a place to start a job search. If anything, it should be classified as a site aggregator. Considering 100 million job searches are now taking place monthly on Google, where are the candidates landing (purely from a site aggregator perspective)? It’s not jobster.

From claims to being the leading employment service on facebook to revolutionizing online recruiting, the company has continued to fall short on promises, except for the layoffs.

Will the value in the site pointing to recruiting.com do anything for jobster? Will the funding eventually dry up? What do you see in jobster’s future?
